Pipadouro - Vintage Wine Travel

Gentleman's Vintage Boat

This boat classified as a Vintage Boat with, 30 feet length, is from 1967. In its construction it was used drawings made by the well-known American brand Chris-Craft. It was built in wood in João Brites shipyards, in Lisbon. This beautiful and comfortable boat was originally owned by a Portuguese family who used it as a leisure boat to sail in the estuary of Tejo River.

It had a bow cabin big enough for a couple, an indoor dining and living room, which could be transformed into a bedroom for the children, and a bathroom. In 1987, 20 years later, it was bought and restored by a gas company, and was converted to the transportation of their clients and directors. Another 20 years later PIPADOURO buys this boat and restores it again, making it Pipadouro II.

This last restauration equipped the boat with a new security system, air conditioning, and waste treatment, and all was adapted to make the boat to have all the comfort and glamour from the 60’s. The authors of this great intervention on the boat were the Jaime Costa & Fos shipyard, based in Sarilhos Pequenos, Montijo, and they have the particularity of being the only company in Portugal which restores and builds “Canoas à Vela” (traditional wooden boats that travels in River Tejo since 1955).

We still have the information that there is a second twin-boat that is still sailing.
